In 2014 after getting training in peanut butter processing at Uganda Industrial Research Institute’ satellite incubation facility in Lira (Lira Peanut Butter plant), Veronica Oketta put her newly learned skills to practice, first producing her Gold peanut butter product bi-annually and currently producing it 4 times a year. Veronica points out that she produces a batch of 130, 400 grams peanut butter plastic jars and a batch of 60, 1 kilogram peanut butter plastic jars. “I am here to inform UIRI I have got the S Mark – I have been certified,” she speaks happily.
Getting UNBS certification is a mission all enterprising product developers aim for. While UIRI offers the capacity building entrepreneurs need to boost their skills in product development and marketing, UNBS offers product certification in line with ensuring products safety and quality. The certification according to UNBS wins consumer confidence in the certified products resulting into increased market share and consumers’ ability to identify the products that conform to quality standards thus making quick decisions in favour of quality products.
